Maria and Geraldo

Maria and Geraldo

My mother sent me over this picture this evening. It is so beautiful, i thought it would make a great post. I love Maria's confident stance! Maria and Geraldo live next door here in Castelvetere (i've written about them lots and their picture is posted often). They came to live in Canada when their son Tony was young (hence the name Tony Canadese or Canadian Tony). They lived with my mother's family for some time before coming back to Italy. I hope to one day find out the secret to Maria's amazing garden...ahhaha the secret garden...(oh wow that was bad...time for bed...)

3 gone..3 to go! Fireworks over Montemarano

Half of the gang left August 19th. Nonno, Ash and Zia Sonya. Mom dad and i (Lindsey) stayed past a couple weeks to finish up the kitchen and a few other projects as well as visit with family.
Here are some more pictures... The finale of the before and afters will be coming soon!

My friends (and landlords here in Toronto!) Andy and Maggie came to Europe on there honey moon. I left 2 days after their wedding so i hadn't seen them since. They were in Croatia and decided to take a long ferry ride across the Adriatic to Bari. From there they took a bus inland and dad and i picked them up about 45 mins. from the village.

The night they got in was the last festival of the season held in Montemarano so after a quick drink at Casa Primo Sole we headed around the mountain into Montemarano to find my mother who was with her Godmother.

We were all pretty tired by the end of the night and also very full from too much pizza so we called it a night and figured we would have a night cap at the bar sport in Castelvetere. Pierro was there getting ready to go to a friend's place to watch the fireworks and after everyone gave us a hard time for saying we were on our way home, we caved into the peer pressure and followed him back around the mountain. They said it would be a good view to see the village (Montemarano) and the fireworks and they did not disappoint! Although at times it felt a little too close.
The boys bbq'ed lots of food and had plenty of wine and finally the fireworks came to and end and we did make it home; leaving behind small fires in the field where the fireworks landed. The next day we were told that they had to help put out the fires in the field because they were getting so close....only in Castelvetere!

Andy and Maggie caught up on laundry and met MAria and Gelardo (and the kittens). We also went for a very hot walk around town and even to the restaurant where Miluccio spoiled us with food and wine! They planned a quick trip to Spain before heading home. So, after a couple nights in the quiet village they were back on there way. We dropped them off at the Naples airport which is right beside the Ikea...how convenient! More house stuff!!!

Dad painting the entrance my colour!!!! woohoo.

BBQ for the fireworks.

Hanging out in the living room/ kitchen! .... looking good...almost there.

Special happy farewell eggs.

Arrivederci

August 19th, 2011
Saying Ciao on this beautiful summer morning. Dad was getting ready to bring Zia and Nonno to the airport; Ashley escaped earlier on her relaxing bus ride to Rome so that there was room in the car. She obviously didn't mind!

Italians organizing who will sit where for goodbyes..hehehe Dad trying not to get involved!

Better Late than never!...continuing on....

Hello All... I apologize for the delay however i've been getting busy with other things and as much as like to document the family vacation, i was ready for a break. I'm back on and although it is the new Year and the photos on this posting are still from the summer I figure you probably havn't seen them anyway! Also, after being quietly asked many times by my father i need to power through to get to the before and after shots of the house.....
Where was i........
Oh yes, We had just participated in BOSCO; the tarentella festival in the forest and it was a great last hoorah for nonno, Ash and Zia Sonya before they made the trip back to Toronto.
On Their last day in the village; (August 18th, 2011) we took it easy to ensure nonno was ready for his flight and also to say goodbye to friends and family. It is customary for people to come visit at our house on this day. We had many visitors including my cousin Mario and his wife Teresa. We were fortunate to see them quite a few times this visit since they are not far away. Mario plays the accordion so he stopped by for a lesson with his Zio Vittorio. Mario's accordion was very cool; small, bright red and be-dazzled!
